1. The story gives us some increasing information about greater snakes. Draw up a fact file using the format given below. Then draw or stick a picture of  grater snake in your notebook.


Fact File


Appearance : It was as long as Cindy's arm, and had three pale stripes and orange dots on its body. There were little blue slashes on its head. It had red eyes.



Habitat : It generally lives in farms.


Feeding Habits : It opens its mouth very wide and swallow the the food whole.


Characteristics : A grater snake won't hurt anyone if it is handled properly.



Behaviour : It sticks out its tongue to smell things, but whenever Cindy came around the tank, Red Eye would rise up and stick his tongue out as if to say hello.

= When Emily had opened the closet door in the bathroom and there was the grater snake snuggled among the towels. When Red Eye saw Emily, it started to move. Emily knew that if she didn't get hold of it, it would get away. Then she bunched-up the snake in a towel and she took it to the other members of the family.

= Cindy found Red Eye in her uncle's farm when she was visiting the same one day last summer.



5. Cindy brought Red Eye home saying that Emily 'might learn a lot from Red Eye.' When she said these lines, what did Cindy really want to do?


= Emily had refused to lend Cindy her pocket money for their Dad's birthday present. She had also reported Cindy for using her hairbrush to brush their dog. These made Cindy angry on her sister and she wanted to teach Emily a lesson and take revenge. As Emily was very scared of snakes, Cindy thought of taking Red Eye home and make the life of her sister miserable.



6. How did Cindy feel when Emily offered to  look for Red Eye?


= When Emily offered to look for Red Eye, Cindy felt very touched and thought that her sister was really not a bad person.



7. Emily decided to look for Red Eye once she realized that the snake meant a lot to her sister. What does this tell us about her?


Emily decided to look for Red Eye once she realized that the snake meant a lot to her sister. This tells about that she was not really a bad person. She had soft corner and feelings for her sister Cindy. She could not sit still when she found that her sister was upset as her pet grater snake was missing.



8. What did Cindy and Emily learn from Red Eye's disappearance and the search for it?


= First of all, when Red Eye disappeared, Cindy learnt that her sister was not that much bad person as she used to think of. Emily really cared for her sister and agreed to search the grater snake and Cindy was really upset.



Emily learnt that her sister Cindy was not keeping the snake just to be mean. Cindy really loved it as a pet.



Cindy  came to know that her sister Emily had a tough time to catch the snake. She knew that it had been hard for her to touch a snake and she had only done it for her.



Cindy came to perceive that the snake would be safe and happy in the farm only and decided to go back to the farm and set it free.
