1. Why are the temperature Zones also called heat zones?
= The different temperature zones are also called heat zones because the heat in each of these zones depends on how far it is form the equator. The climatic zones near the equator are the hottest. As we more away from the equator, the climatic zones are near the poles.
2. Desert areas have very few cities. Why is this?
= Different areas have very few cities due to the hot and dry climate and scarcity of rain. These are hardy plants, adapted with fleshy stems, thorny and tiny leaves, long roots and strong seeds.
3. Write one or two sentences about A. Desert plants and B. Coniferous trees.
= A. Desert plants : The plants of desert region, are hardy, adapted with fleshy stems, thorny and tiny leaves, long roots and strong seeds.
B. Coniferous trees : Coniferous trees are tall straight cone-bearing trees with niddle-like leaves like pine, fir etc.
4. Why is farming not possible in the frigid zone?
= The regions in the frigid zone around the poles are permanently frozen. The region around the North Pole is frozen water, whereas in the South Pole it is frozen land. So, due to this reason, farming is not possible in the frigid zone.
5. Explain why the numbers of bison in North America were greatly reduced.
= In the temperate zone, large areas of grasslands were converted into farmland as well as towns and cities for people to live. Animals like mighty bison of North America that lived three in thousands, were reduced to very small numbers.
