C. Short answer type questions.
1. Write a short note on the location of India.
= India is located in the subcontinent of South Asia. It is located in the southern part of Asia. As the seventh largest country in the world, India stands apart from the rest of Asia, marked off by the mountains and seas, which give the country a distinct geographical entity.
2. India is divided into 29 State and 7 Union Territories. Explain the statement by giving suitable examples.
= India is divided into 29 States, 7 Union Territories, including the National Capital Territory of Delhi. In the extreme North is the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Kanniyakumari lies at the southern tip of the main land of India. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, our country measures 3,214 km and from Gujarat in the west to Arunachal Pradesh in the east, it measures 2,933 km. India is the widest in the middle and becomes narrow towards the South.
3. What do you know about the physical divisions of India?
= The surface of the earth is not uniform at all places. In India, it also varies from place to place. We have very high mountains, vast plains, huge desert and a great plateau region. Many rivers originate from mountains and flow towards plains. At many places, these rivers make waterfalls.
Our country is marked by a diversity of physical features such as mountains, plateaus, plains, coasts and islands. These are : i) The Himalayan Mountains in the North, ii) The Northern Plains, iii) The Great Indian Desert in the West, iv) The Peninsular Plateau in the South, v) The Coastal Plains, and vi) The Islands.

= Indian Ocean is to the south of India. It is one of the big waterbodies surrounding India. It has its name after the name of the country India.
2. Bay of Bengal.
= The Bay of Bengal is to the east side of India. The Andaman and Nicobar islands group lies in the Bay of Bengal. Palk Strait is an inlet of the Bay of Bengal which separates northern Sri Lanka from Tamil Nadu.
3. Arabian Sea.
= Arabian Sea is to the West of India. Lakshadweep which is one of the Union Territories of India, is situated on the Arabian Sea.
